“Quiet Takeover” — Sermon on Soul Winning

We are called to tell other people about Jesus so that they can become followers of Jesus.  In our places of work, our families, and everywhere in between, we are called to initiate a quiet takeover of those places. It is not a takeover where we use violence, or angry words. It is a quiet takeover because we use the love of Christ, the conviction of the Holy Spirit, and the word of God to influence the areas around us.   By doing this we will quietly takeover our world for Jesus.  As Christians it is not optional; it is required for us to be Christ-like, and go into every nation declaring God’s goodness.

Matthew 28:18-20 (NLT)

18 Jesus came and told his disciples, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. 19 Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. 20 Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

As Christians, we must win souls. We must make disciples, meaning create more followers of Christ in every circle that we belong to.  Missionaries in remote villages aren’t the only ones making a difference. Every Christian is a missionary.

1)            Every Christian is a missionary —-

Any place you travel throughout your week is a mission field.  Since the Holy Spirit lives in us, and Jesus is at the right hand of God speaking to the Father for us, no one can stop us but ourselves. As God was with Moses, so the Father, Spirit and Son are always with us.

2)            He is with you always, even to the end of the age —- Jesus said to be sure of this; that he would always be with us. We need this confidence because people will fight us and will try to stop us. Because people are lost, they will be hostile.

Romans 1:20-21(NLT)

20 For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God.

21 Yes, they knew God, but they wouldn’t worship him as God or even give him thanks. And they began to think up foolish ideas of what God was like. As a result, their minds became dark and confused.

These verses tell us why people will be hostile.  But no one will be able to stand against you. You don’t have to stoop to their level; God will fight your battles.

Luke 10:19(NLT)19 Look, I have given you authority over all the power of the enemy, and you can walk among snakes and scorpions and crush them. Nothing will injure you.

Because of this authority Christ has given us, don’t be afraid to speak up for Christ.

3)            Don’t be afraid to speak up for Christ —- Some people will reject you, but Christ promises that people will also listen. God is responsible for the ones that don’t listen.  So pray and tell people about Jesus. He will give you the right words for every situation:

Luke 21:14-15 (NLT)

14 So don’t worry in advance about how to answer the charges against you, 15 for I will give you the right words and such wisdom that none of your opponents will be able to reply or refute you!

Not only will Christ give us wisdom in what to say, but also how to behave. Don’t be afraid to live for Jesus, either.

4)           Don’t be afraid to live for Christ —-

  • You shouldn’t have to tell people you are a Christian.  They should know by our lifestyles.
  • If we were put on trial for being Christians, would there be a stack of evidence against you, or a stack of evidence supporting you?
  • God’s Word is dedicated to ethics, which deals with how people treat each other, especially in the church.

Matthew 18:15 (NLT)

15 “If another believersins against you,go privately and point out the offense. If the other person listens and confesses it, you have won that person back.

The Bible just told us how conflict resolution is supposed to begin in the church. A major point of concern for us as witnesses to the outside world is how we demonstrate the love of Christ to other Christ-followers. We have the Bible to teach us how.

5)            No better place than the Bible —- The Bible is God’s B. asic I.instructions B.efore L.eaving E.arth.  Study how every book of the Bible before Christ points forward to him. Study how every book of the Bible after Christ points back to him.

  • Transition: God’s Word will give us our battle tactics for prayer, evangelizing, making disciples, growing in our faith, etc. That’s why it’s so important to us. We all have a manual that we use for our jobs. If being a Christian is a full-time job, why not look at the manual, the blueprint, the guidelines?  God pointed people to his Word so that it would be a guideline for successful living. And the highest form of success for the Christian is for him or her to be soul winners.

Joshua 1:8-9 (NLT)

8             Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do. This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

9             The Word of God teaches us about the Father. It teaches us how to raise our kids, save our money, how to love our spouses, etc. People who are not Christians pay attention to all these things. These things are all part of our witness.

4a) Meditate on it day and night ——— Let the Word of God be a normal, habitual part of your day and your life.

4b) Be careful to do everything written in it ——– Obey all of the Word, not just the parts we like.

10           Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do —— God wants you to be successful at everything, but especially at soul winning, witnessing to non-Christians.

Acts 1:8(NLT)

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

We need to remember this for ourselves, and we also need to share the gospel with people because they need to know that Christ is the only means of salvation that God has provided. They too must obey God’s Word and follow Christ. Christians need to grow in obedience, and non-Christians need to become obedient.

Hebrews 12:1 (NLT)12 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us.

The Greek word used here for Acts 1:8 and Hebrews 12:1 is martys (mar-tus), which can mean one who is a spectator in a contest. We are spectators in the contest between Heaven and Hell. We step back, surrender our lives to the Holy Spirit and watch Him go!  Also, the word martys (mar-tus) is where we get our English word “martyr.” So not only have Christians physically died throughout the years, but every day we die to our own desires and put Christ’s will on the highest throne in our hearts.

CONCLUSION: There is no place God where God won’t meet us. His Spirit lives in us, so there is no place on Earth where His presence doesn’t have access. Don’t be discouraged by the giants of atheism, skepticism, doubt, sin and the hard hearts of today’s world. The Lord our God will be with us wherever we go, and will be with us whoever we share the gospel of Jesus Christ with.
